Are you kidding me? This trail frickin rocks!! Another IMBA Epic crossed off the list. My buddy Tony happens to live in Park City, UT – and I just happened to be passing through on my way home to Mammoth. Who woulda thunk? Maybe we should coordinate a ride? OK. Let’s ride. Only thing is, Tony was leaving on a trip in the afternoon, and I was on a time crunch trying to get prego wife back home as well… so what to do? Hmmm, what if we have prego wife shuttle us up to Silver Lake Lodge at Deer Valley, and we ride the Mid-Mountain Trail to the Canyons Resort, and jump on Molly’s to get down the mountain, and wind up at 7-11 where prego wifey can pick us up? The the kids can hang out and play while the daddy’s ride. Sounds like a sweet plan!! Execute.
What is the Mid-Mountain Trail? It’s a 20 mile piece of redonculously tasty singletrack that traverses through 3 ski resorts with stunning views of Park City down below. Most of the ride is around 8,000′. The trailhead starts at Silver Lake Lodge @ Deer Valley Resort to the south, although there are many other options with more climbing involved – but with our time crunch, we just shuttled up there. Check out this site for a ton of info. From there, it goes through Deer Valley to Park City Resort to Canyons Resort. Here is where most people (including us) take Molly’s Trail (part of the Canyons Bike Park) down to the Village area. This trail has amazing flow and you’ll find yourself pinning it and grinning it at every turn. A great way to end it. Even though the ride is basically a traverse and a descent, you do go up and down plenty, through some tough techy sections, adding up to about 1,600′ of climbing. The tread is mainly buff singletrack, but there are plenty of rock gardens and techy sections to keep ya tuned in, and keep your forearms pumping.
This trail is a MUST RIDE. Add to your bucket list now. If you’ve already felt the stoke of the M-M Trail, start a new bucket list and re-list it cuz!
