Yesterday was blast and day of firsts for many Fat Bike Mammoth peeps. Last year, a couple of us started snowshoe “fatpacking” the 4.25 mile Uptown/Downtown loop (up to the Earthquake Fault and back). Then we’d reap the reward of our efforts by riding bikes on the glorious snow singletrack. This year, we’re doing the same thing except for one extra ingredient – a local friend and Fat Bike Mammoth’er is now renting bikes 🙂

Sooo… instead of just two or three of us getting the stoke of riding the shreddiest snow singletrack around, we were able to share it with 12 people yesterday!! That may not seem like a lot, but for a small mountain biking/fat biking club that started off with just 3 people – it’s a huge success. It was our biggest fat bike group ride to date, and more importantly we had 8 first timers riding fatties on snow!! As always, everyone returned with endorphins popping, grinning ear to ear – riding bikes, fellowship with friends old and new, and living an active/healthy lifestyle. Perfect.
Many people were sledding in this area over the holidays. As a bi-product, some douche bags felt it’s okay to leave cracked and broken sleds alongside their empty corona bottles and hot chocolate cups. This ride was a great excuse for us to do some community cleanup, and rid our forest of those nasty eye sores. When I brought the pile home, Lucy got fired up – so today we’re gonna go to the AA building and the Scenic Loop and do some more trash/discarded sled pickup (and maybe some sledding of our own 🙂
Anyhoo… moral of the story… we’re gonna be doing a lot more group rides/ fatty demos this year… and packing some more singletrack trails. What does that mean for you? No excuses – come out and ride bikes with us. The best way to stay in the loop is join our Fat Bike Mammoth Google Group email list. Our Facebook Page is good to follow as well, but a bunch of posts slip through the cracks unless you’re paying them loot.
Got a few cool things to announce soon… stand by… I’ll end with a great quote that keeps getting stuck in my head… although I’m guilty of both 🙂
