Niner One 9 – Kermit Green

A squiggly section on the Tortoise Trail

Kermit Green Niner One 9

I purchased this frame on eBay in May, 2014.  It was barely used, and in much better condition than my beloved Atomic Blue One 9.  Niner no longer makes the scandium frames, so I was stoked to find one in nice shape.  I love my blue One 9 so much, but I’ve beaten the crap out of it, and needed a bike to take some of the brunt off it.  Also, I have a squish fork and a rigid carbon fork… so instead of switching between forks, this frame gave me an excuse to dedicate one fork to each bike and have different gear ratios at the ready.  I usually leave this bike at 32:17 and have the blue one at 36:16.  I built it up almost identical to “bluey”.  It’s weighing in at 17.8lbs with the carbon fork.  I find myself riding this bike a lot and I love it.

  • Frame: Niner One 9Kermit Green, Size Small, Scandium
  • Fork (Rigid): Niner Carbon- Nude (I’ve beaten the crap out of this, and keeps on ticking)
  • Crank: Truvativ Stylo OCT 1.1 – (bullet-proof, light, and CHEAP – the best ss crank bang for the buck hands down – they stopped making them, but you can find on eBay for cheap – i got this set for $55
  • Headset: Chris King Sotto Voce Black
  • Stem: Easton- EA90 90mm, 0 degree
  • Bars: Enve Carbon Bar – 700mm, 9 degree sweep

  • Chain: KMC- X9SL Gold (super lightweight and strong, but expensive)
  • Tires: For almost everything, I use Maxxis Ignitor 2.1 front, Maxxis Ikon 2.2 rear – the Ikon 2.2 is really more like a 2.0 or 2.1.  I always run tubeless with Stans Sealant

  • Saddle: WTB Valcon
  • Seatpost: Easton EC90 Carbon 400mm (lightweight, strong and cheap compared to others)

I swear by these cranks for their strength, light weight, and price point. The X9SL chain is great too.
